Murano and Empoli glass

I can bet if you like vintage as i do , that you did at least seen one of these most beautiful glass vase , bottle , paperweights and more . Here is some nice infos about those . I did find almost all of it on internet and add small comments from me . There is a big list of really nice sites on this . Every time i list a new on on my shop i use those to make sure i am on the right track !

So here we go !

This is a great example of the work of Empoli glass ..

 Italian Empoli Glass:
When most people think of Italian glass, they think of the many manufacturers based on the Venetian island of Murano. But there is another area of Italy with a long history of glass production - the town of Empoli, in the Tuscany region, near Florence.

There is evidence of glassware being produced in Empoli as far back as the thirteenth century. There are two main types of Empoli glass - "Verde" and "Cased". Verde (Italian for green) glass takes its name from the traditional green color of Empoli glass, which was a result of the content of local sand used for glass production. Empoli manufacturers that produced Verde glassware include: Vetrerie E. Taddei & C., Vetreria Etrusca, Vetreria Toso Bagnoli, CLAVE, and Vetrerie Empolesi.

Later, cased glass became popular in Empoli, which consists of brightly colored glass cased in a layer of clear glass, sometimes also having an internal layer of opaque white "Lattimo" glass. Some Empoli producers of cased glass are: STELVIA, Cristalleria Fratelli Betti, Cristalleria Arno, CIVE, and SAVIA.

There was, and still are, a large amount of manufacturers in the Empoli area involved in glass production, and it can often be difficult to identify designs by a particular maker, as any labels usually bore the name of importers, or simply read "Made in Italy". Companies that imported glass from Empoli include: Alrose, Rossini, Guildcraft, Vimax, Enesco and George Hardy.

The cased glass is made in multiple layers like the orange one above .. If you look at it closely you will see the " clear " , the one with colors and the cased one inside in this case orange .. let me show you ..

As you can see there is the cased orange glass inside , the one with the colors is blown glass and the clear is easy to see on the base .. That is what they call cased glass .. there's been some repros along the years but its very hard to come close of this quality ..

Here is another one :

Same here but the inside glass is white ..

When we talk about Empoli we have to talk about " green " glass .. Empoli is well knowed for those wonderful green color glass of many kind .. Again let me show you an example :

This is really nice hey ?

Here is some great links of where i took my infos :

Next time ill do a page on the differences from Murano and Lorraine Chalet .. you'll see there is not much difference between the both !

I wish you a wonderful week !

Tea lovers this one is for you !

Maddly in love with tea cups , tea sets , old ones , and yes vintage ones !

Here is a part of history of the tea

The history of tea is fascinating and offers great insight into the history of our world. Since tea was first discovered in China, it has traveled the world conquering the thirsts of virtually every country on the planet. Tea is the most popular beverage in the world as well as one of the healthiest. If you have ever wondered where tea comes from and how we got to the point where tea is served in virtually every corner of the world, steep a hot cup of tea and explore the history of the simple tea leaf over the centuries!

One legend claims that the discovery of tea occurred in 2737 BC by the Emperor of China.  For several hundred years, people drank tea because of its herbal medicinal qualities.  By the time of the Western Zhou Dynasty, tea was used as a religious offering.  During the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD), tea plants were quite limited and only royalty and the rich drank tea not only for their health but also for the taste.  As more tea plants were discovered during the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907), tea drinking became more common among lower classes and the Chinese government supported planting of tea plants and even the building of tea shops so everyone could enjoy tea.

Kinds of teas ..

White Teas

White tea is the purest and least processed of all teas.  This loose leaf tea brews a light color and flavor.

Green Teas

Green tea is the most popular type of tea, mainly because it is the beverage of choice in Asia. Some loose green teas are scented with flowers or mixed with fruits to create scented or flavored teas.

Oolong Teas

Oolong tea, also known as wu long tea, is full-bodied with a flavorful fragrance and sweet aroma.  Most people commonly recognize oolong tea as the Chinese tea served in Chinese restaurants.

Black Teas

Black tea is the tea most people know since you likely grew up dipping tea bags of black tea in your cup (or enjoyed this tea from an iced tea pitcher in the South).

Herbal Teas

Herbal tea does not contain any leaves from the Camellia plant family, so it is sometimes referred to as a tisane. Herbal teas can be broken into three categories: rooibos teas, mate teas, and herbal infusions. Herbal infusions consist of pure herbs, flowers, and fruits. They can be delicious hot or iced.

Rooibos Teas

Rooibos tea, or red tea, is made from a South African red bush. Rooibos teas can be delicious hot or iced.

Mate Teas

Mate tea is considered the coffee lover's favorite tea. Made from the leaves and twigs of the yerba mate plant.

Blooming Teas

Also called artisan or flowering teas, these teas actually 'bloom' as they steep. They are hand tied by tea artists and often include some type of flavor or scent along with the beautiful design.

Tea Blends

Tea blends often have the best of both worlds since they combine more than one type of premium tea.  Mixing teas in a blend is one of the best ways to get great flavor.

I am posting those just for you and for the love of flowers ! By the way here is some economic  tips to keep your flowers healty and safe from insects ..

Keep your coffee grounds and put in one or two times a week in your flower bed .. This will keep away slugs and snails. Keep cooked egg shells and crush them for then drop to the ground near your plants, crawling insects hate being hurt.. Keep your banana peels and bury them in the ground, bananas contain nitrogen which gives strength to your flowers..
